How do people live in England: in poverty or luxury? The answer isn’t straightforward. You can find modest apartments with minimalist decor as well as luxurious mansions with exquisite design. It all depends on income and lifestyle.

If you walk through the rooms of this house, the atmosphere may seem modest. Whitewashed walls, slightly peeling plaster on the ceiling, iron beds, homespun rugs… And you wouldn’t even think that a wealthy family actually lives here. The hostess is a shoe designer, and her husband runs his own business (he has several companies in the field of consulting services).

Before moving here, they lived in Notting Hill, a respectable district of London. It would seem that life is like in a fairy tale: a lot of money, a nice apartment, an interesting job, a busy life in the capital of England. And what else is needed for happiness?Their choice fell on a small house in Burford. This is a tiny town that looks more like a village. Only 1,400 people live here. And among them now is Penelope and her husband.

The couple live together, but their children and their families often come to visit them. Penelope designed the entire interior herself. The main rule she followed was that there should be nothing new here.

Well, let’s take a look inside?

In addition to the kitchen, there is a dining room with a stove (I’ll show it separately). Some of the furniture — a table, chairs, and chests of drawers — was left by the previous owners. Penelope decided to keep them because they fit perfectly into the interior that she wanted to recreate in this house.

On the first floor, two rooms were combined into one large living room so that the whole family could gather in the evenings.

This is probably the most beautiful place in the whole house: a huge vintage rug, peach walls, pink curtains… The sofa by the window is also from the previous owners. It was cleaned, the cushions replaced, and it found its place in the renovated living room.

Three rooms are designated as bedrooms. The master bedroom stands out with special walls that Penelope painted herself. The shade of rhubarb, which goes perfectly with the dark wood and linens, is her own invention.

This concludes our tour. What do you think of this house? What did you like and what didn’t you like? Share your thoughts in the comments!
