Many children are bo rn around the wo rld, but among those milllions, sometimes oone or a few are born with unique conditions. What can we do—against nature, we are powerless, and sometimes nature shows us its undeniable strength…
In 2006, Krista and Tatiana Hoggan weere boorn in Vancouver, Canada, to Felicia Simms and Brendan Hogan. Felicia only found out she was expecting twins at 21 weeks pregnant.
During a serious consultation, she learned that not only was she carrying twins, but that they were conjoined at the head and had only a 20% chance of survival. Still, Felicia chose to keep the pregnancy.
Despite the odds, the girls were born healthy, with normal weight and individual bodies—yet connected at the skull. Over time, doctors discovered their brains were neurologically linked. For instance, if one cried, soothing the other would often calm them both. It was also revealed that they might share aspects of vision, perceiving the world partly through each other’s eyes.
In 2007, doctors declared separating them too risky, possibly leading to paralysis or death. By age three, they could speak, count, and even bicker like other children.
Though physically connected, their personalities, preferences, and emotions remain distinctThey live as individuals in an extraordinary bond.
